Johannesburg – An arrest warrant was issued for ANC Secretary General Ace Magashule, Independent Media reliably learned Tuesday night.
The National Tax Authority’s arrest warrant for Magashule comes after several high-profile arrests have recently been made.
Magashule also confirmed knowledge of his arrest after Independent Media sent him questions around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
“I am conscious. I am conscious,” he said. “It’s going to be Hollywood-style. But we’ll see,” Magashule said.
It is understood that Magashule will be arrested and charged for his role in the controversial Vrede Dairy Farm project. He will be charged with his alleged “lack of supervision” in connection with the Vrede dairy farm investigation.
Magashule was the prime minister of the Free State when money intended to empower emerging farmers was allegedly misused.
Sources within the Hawks have confirmed that Magashule was on the list of people to be arrested this month.
Magashule declined to respond as to whether any other high-profile ANC members would be arrested.
“I can’t talk about the others. But we’ll see,” Magashule said briefly, before hanging up the phone.
The NPA has not responded to questions.
** This is a story in development.
In August, The Star reported that more than R756m was paid to a company named in the Free State Vrede Dairy Farm scandal, with an alleged bribery payment scheme at the for-profit contract center.
These accusations were contained in the charge sheet against Lenah Mohapi, director of Superior Quality Trading, the company that received the R245m contract in 2014 to execute agricultural projects in the Free State.
