On Tuesday, the party released a statement condemning Trump after the Washington Post reported Saturday that Michael Cohen, Trump’s former personal attorney in the United States, alleges in a new book that the outgoing American leader even used language. rude against Mandela.
According to the American newspaper, Cohen wrote that after Mandela’s death in 2013, Trump said: “Mandela screwed up the whole country. Now he sucks. F — Mandela. He wasn’t a leader.”
Cohen also alleged that Trump said: “Tell me a country run by a black person who is not an idiot. They are all complete toilets.”
Responding to Trump, the ANC said that all freedom-loving people in the world are horrified by these insults that come from a person who, by himself, is not a competent leadership role model. The party added that Trump is a divisive, misogynistic and disrespectful person who once held the office of the president.
“The icon of our struggle, President Nelson Mandela, stands in stark contrast to Trump. A unifying and principled leader, President Mandela reached out to the world and sought to bring peace and a just society. President Mandela also believed in good trade and strong diplomatic relations.
“He forged a strong friendship with President Bill Clinton, interacted with political leaders from across the political spectrum, and never abandoned his principles for short-term, pragmatic goals,” the ANC said in a statement.
Furthermore, the ANC said that if Mandela were still around, he would have offered some leadership lessons to Trump. He added that Mandela is an international icon, a revered freedom fighter and a great leader who will be remembered and celebrated for centuries to come.
“The ANC is confident that President Mandela would have approached Donald Trump to teach him to understand the complex challenges of the developing world and to show him the wisdom to lift the blockade against Cuba.
