The National Tax Authority (NPA) said additional charges would be added against the defendants, including former Mangaung mayor Olly Mlameli and the head of Free State Human Settlements Nthimotse Mokhesi.

They were arrested last month for money laundering, corruption and theft for a 2014 government project, which was never completed, worth R255 million.

This comes with the news that ANC Secretary General Ace Magashule will appear in court on Friday in connection with the deal.

Members of the ANC Free State said heads must roll and the law must be used against those who have stolen from the people of the province.

Thousands of residents still live in houses that have asbestos roofs, and some are dejected over whether their situations would ever change.

The ANC said Wednesday’s march was to demonstrate the level of dissatisfaction members had with the widespread corruption that took away those in need.

The party’s Mxolisi Dukwana said they would stop at nothing to ensure that everyone involved in the crime was brought to justice.

“We want to invite all the people of the province to stand up with us and clearly declare to everyone that this is not a hotbed of criminals. This cannot and should not be allowed to turn into a gangster state. “

The Free State ANC has also asked Magashule, who is involved in the asbestos project, to prove his innocence.
