The ANC has condemned the attacks against Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula by a group in his department that calls itself party members.
“The ANC has taken note with concern of a letter written by faceless people claiming to be comrades, members and supporters of the ANC in the Department of Transport and its entities, making baseless accusations and attacking the integrity of the Minister of Transport, Cde Fikile. Mbalula ”. said spokesman Pule Mabe.
“The ANC frowns upon public servants who meddle in party politics in the workplace under the mistaken belief that they can invoke the ANC’s name and undermine the authority of elected leaders.
“They have no qualms about doing everything possible to challenge the president’s prerogative to appoint ministers and vice ministers,” Mabe said.
According to media reports, the group wrote a letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa, National Assembly Speaker Thandi Modise, Transportation Portfolio Committee Chairman Mosebenzi Zwane, Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane, Auditor General Kimki Makwetu, and South Afrcains denouncing irregularities in the department.
In a statement, Mabe said that the ANC distanced itself from these faceless individuals and rejected their claim that they acted as ANC companions, members and supporters with the contempt it deserved.
“The disciplined cadres of the ANC understand the internal channels for raising problems and do not use the facade of being cadres, members and supporters to promote anarchy.
“The president of the ANC, Cde Cyril Ramaphosa, has been emphatic when communicating the opinions of the collective of leaders of the ANC, that public officials should refrain from being involved in partisan political affairs in the performance of their functions.
Therefore, we call on all public servants to respect this requirement and carry out their mandate with diligence without fear or favoritism ”.
Mabe said the ANC has the utmost confidence in Mbalula’s leadership to address the pressing challenges in the Department of Transportation.
“We have noticed the great strides you have made in prioritizing challenges in the public transportation sector.
“The ANC urges Cde Mbalula not to be distracted by those who sell malicious gossip. It must not allow faceless individuals to undermine the ANC’s ability to fulfill its electoral mandate, ”he added.
