The ANC has asked Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula not to be distracted by the gossip of a group of “faceless” members of the ANC in the transport department who criticized him in a letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa.
ANC spokesman Pule Mabe said that faceless people claiming to be comrades, members and supporters of the ANC in the department had made unsubstantiated accusations.
The party issued an unprecedented statement in support of Mbalula on Monday in response to the group that labeled him a “Twitter celebrity minister.”

The letter, which focused on various alleged wrongdoing in the department, follows Ramaphosa’s open letter to ANC members in which he said the party was the number one defendant when it came to corruption in the country.
Mabe said the party had urged Mbalula not to allow faceless individuals to undermine the ANC’s ability to fulfill its electoral mandate.

“They have no qualms about doing everything possible to question the president’s prerogative to appoint ministers and vice ministers.
“The ANC distances itself from these faceless individuals and rejects their claim that they act as comrades, members and sympathizers of the ANC, with the contempt it deserves. Disciplined ANC cadres understand internal channels for raising issues and do not use the cover to be cadres, members and supporters to promote anarchy. “

The group’s letter is addressed, among others, to the Speaker of the National Assembly Thandi Modise, the chairman of the Parliament’s transportation committee Mosebenzi Zwane, the public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane, the Auditor General Kimi Makwethu and the South Africans “who still care. for the country and its future. “
Mabe said that President Cyril Ramaphosa has been emphatic in communicating the views of the ANC leadership collective.
“Public servants must refrain from getting involved in partisan political affairs in the performance of their duties. Therefore, we call on all public servants to respect this requirement and carry out their mandate diligently, without fear or favor.
“The ANC has the utmost confidence in Mbalula’s leadership to address the urgent challenges in the Department of Transportation. We have noted the great strides it has made in prioritizing challenges in the public transportation sector,” he added.
