JOHANNESBURG – Paul Holden of Shadow World Investigation said a Gupta associate who had no agricultural experience and did not know why the cows were dying received a R3 million payment for working on the Vrede dairy farm.

Holden returned to the state capture commission on Friday, where he detailed the transactions, including cash flows from the Free State to Gupta’s wedding.

Holden said that part of the R280 million paid by the Free State to Estina was used to obtain loans abroad and was only repaid to buy dairy equipment when there was an uproar.

Holden said: “Chandrana Prasad did not understand why the cows were dying and it had to be explained to them that they cannot just live on grass, they also need food. Over the course of the Estina project, he is paid just over R3 million. “
