CAPE TOWN – It can be a busy week as Parliament enters its final leg of the year before going into recess.

The highlight of the week, or the dim light depending on your political leanings, will be President Cyril Ramaphosa facing his first vote of no confidence on Thursday.

Starting Tuesday, the legislature will hold several budget review meetings, as well as a debate on the situation at the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).

The debate has been described as an urgent matter of national importance and will be led by Zandile Majozi of the Inkatha Freedom Party.

Later in the week, the president will also have to fight his first vote of no confidence since he took office.

While his predecessor Jacob Zuma faced several such motions, this will be Ramaphosa’s first political test in Parliament.

In his request, Vuyo Zungula of the African Transformation Movement argued that Ramaphosa misled the country when he said no cargo would be lost during December and January this year.
