Alex Telles was finally able to convince Luke Shaw skeptics of his quality at Manchester United

Alex Telles was the left-back that some Manchester United fans were clamoring for. But, three months after his arrival, Luke Shaw still seems to be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s preferred choice.

In recent matchups against Everton and Wolves, Telles was replaced by his £ 27 million teammate to great effect.

United were looking for goals in both games and few teams would consider replacing one left-back with another. Yet that is exactly what Solskjaer did, and his team won both.

Shaw has divided opinion among some United supporters for years. However, the simple fact is that he is one of Solskjaer’s most trusted players, and for good reason.

At just 25 years old, Shaw could soon be nearing his peak. And that’s an exciting prospect for both him and United as a whole.

Given Telles’ experience and striking ability, it was expected to rank relatively unchallenged after its £ 15.4 million move (BBC) Instead, Shaw is the chosen man most of the time.

Bright light on the back

So far this season, the England international has appeared 16 times in all competitions, while Telles has appeared 11 times. The former’s absence through injury in November saw the Portuguese intervene, but Shaw returned for the next game against Manchester City.

Telles has not done too much wrong and its quality is undeniable. His shot from the left is possibly the best United have seen in a decade. However, his arrival has not highlighted Shaw’s weaknesses, but rather illuminated his strengths.

If Shaw can keep a Telles-quality player out of United’s starting eleven, that says it all.

The time has come for the remaining skeptics to come to terms with just how good Shaw is. They don’t need us to tell them. The proof is in the field.
