Al Ahly’s head of transfers, Amir Tawfik, has confirmed that they are in talks with Mamelodi Sundowns about a move by Gaston Sirino.

Sirino has been strongly linked to a transfer to Al Ahly for months as the player looks to meet former coach Pitso Mosimane.

The 29-year-old was said to be interested in moving to the Red Devils and publicly expressed his desire to leave the Mamelodi Sundowns.

Mamelodi Sundowns had revealed that Al Ahly wanted to sign Sirino in the summer, but talks between the two clubs fell through after failing to agree on a transfer fee.

However, new reports have emerged recently claiming that Al Ahly has reopened talks about a possible Sirino transfer in January.

Al Ahly’s Amir Tawfik spoke about Sirino, confirming the conversations between them and Sundowns, but says they have yet to speak with the midfielder.

“Sirino has always been a transfer target for Al Ahly,” Tawfik said. “There has been contact before and if something happens, the club will officially announce it.

“We are speaking with the Sundowns officials, and if a serious event occurs, we will begin negotiations with the player.”

Sirino has been at the Sundowns since January 2018, where he made a century of appearances, scoring 24 goals and recording 29 assists.

If Al Ahly acquire Sirino, they will have to fire one of their foreign players, and Angolan winger Geraldo is closing in on leaving the club.
