Ajax Cape Town maintained their hopes of promotion to Premiership I live with a resounding 5-1 victory over Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) at Bidvest Stadium on Wednesday.

Forward Eleazar Rodgers scored a hat-trick, while Siphesihle Mkhize and Chumani Butsaka also found the back of the net for the Cape side as they rose to victory after going an on goal early in the match.

The victory moves the Urban Warriors to six points in three games played in the promotional playoffs, but they will need something in their last game against Black Leopards later this week.

The Urban Warriors’ victory on Wednesday was thanks to a scoring barrage that saw them score five goals in the first 15 minutes after the second half.

Thembisani Nevhulamba had given TTM the lead in the 11th minute and Limpopo’s side maintained their narrow lead until half-time.

Ajax coach Calvin Marlin must have given his players a beating at the break as they came out like possessed men after the break.

Mkhize scored the tying goal two minutes after the restart, finishing on goal from a corner after TTM failed to clear their lines from a corner.

Rogers then scored twice in four minutes, first hitting his marker and nailing a Cohen Stander cross and then hitting an empty net at the far post.

Ajax made four at the hour mark when Chumani Butsaka put in a fierce effort that was too strong for TTM goalkeeper Tshepo Ramaele.

Rogers completed his hat-trick, and the game’s scoreboard, when he converted a penalty in the 65th minute after a hand in the area.

The Urban Warriors’ last game in the playoffs is against Black Leopards at Rand Stadium on Friday.
