Adcock Ingram said today that an employee at his critical care manufacturing facility has tested positive for COVID-19 and that a section the employee worked on has been closed.
The company also identified 50 other employees who had contacted the employee and had been quarantined, awaiting their results.
The JSE-listed company said deep cleaning of the plant, performed by a third-party specialist, started yesterday, and that the plant will be closed for the entire long weekend to ensure that deep cleaning is done properly and that Employees are able to resume work on Tuesday, provided the company is satisfied with the outcome of the deep cleaning procedures.
The company said in a statement that the infected employee showed minor symptoms of the virus on Tuesday and informed the clinic at the scene.
Colin Sheen, managing director of the Critical Care unit at Adcock, said the employee remains in quarantine and will only return to work once cleared by a healthcare professional and that the company was evaluating the employee’s home environment. and move it to another place. quarantine location if necessary.
