Johannesburg – A heavy storm was expected to hit Gauteng on Wednesday and residents were warned to take precautions due to anticipated flooding and reduced visibility.

This comes after the South African Meteorological Services issued a Level 2 impact-based warning on the storm in the province, which is expected to start in the early afternoon and last until 9 p.m.

The City of Joburg’s Disaster Management Department said the storm outbreaks would be associated with severe lightning, flash flooding, reduced visibility and damaging winds.

“According to the warning, there is a high risk of a minor to severe impact at the site over parts of Gauteng. Storm formation will begin in the afternoon and peak at around 5 pm.

“This could result in damage to formal and informal homes, commercial structures, temporary flooding of low-grade road crossings, driveways, and low-lying residential areas.

“The Johannesburg City Disaster Management Center is asking city residents and their visitors to be vigilant about changing weather conditions and to be careful.

“To protect themselves, jobugers are advised to stay indoors, do not seek shelter under trees, watch for signs of possible trees that may be falling, avoid open and isolated spaces, as well as keep watch and avoid crossing bridges. flooded low.
