At first glance, Jadon Sancho and Chris Smalling don’t seem to have much in common. But the couple find themselves in very similar situations.

According to The Mirror, United do not want to pay 108 million pounds for Sancho. That’s no surprise given the economic hit from soccer this year.
However, Sancho is one of the best prospects in the game and United cannot wait to just hang around and secure a late discount.
Ed Woodward cannot feel aggrieved by Sancho when he refuses to sell Smalling for less than its perceived value.
Roma want the defender to return after a successful loan. And United is willing to say goodbye if it gets what it asks for.
As reported by The Guardian, United wants at least £ 18 million for Smalling. Currently, the Roma have only offered £ 11 million.
The Italians are expected to return with an improved offer, but United cannot complain if it is less than the £ 18 million they want.
After all, they have gone all summer without paying what it takes to get Sancho.
In short, a club wants what it wants. That’s the same whether he’s one of the most talented youngsters in the game or a seasoned defender with a point to prove.
Ratings work both ways
United want to change players, but only on their terms. That is the correct way to operate. After all, Smalling did excel in Serie A and is worth the requested fee.
