A man, believed to be 40 years old, was killed Saturday afternoon when he was hit by a taxi on Houtkop Road in Vereeniging.
When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene, paramedics found the man there and he was still alive. He was lying in the middle of the road.
The taxi that had struck him was found parked on the side of the road, a short distance from where he was lying, ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said.

They quickly evaluated the man and discovered that he had suffered numerous injuries and was in critical condition.
The man was treated and given advanced life support interventions before being transferred to Sebokeng Provincial Hospital for further care.
But, upon reaching the hospital, the man succumbed to his injuries.
Local authorities were at the scene to conduct further investigations, Meiring said.
