CAPE TOWN – A Golden Arrow bus rider who approached at a time of crisis to get behind the wheel of the bus he was on after an armed robbery on the bus last week was given an incredible opportunity from the company.
Ashley Europa has been hailed as a hero after he and his fellow travelers made it to safety and now Golden Arrow offers him a possible career move to show gratitude.
But Europe is not qualified to drive a heavy motor vehicle, in fact it does not even have a driver’s license.
Bronwen Dyke-Beyer of the Golden Arrow Bus Company said they were going to help Europe by teaching her how to drive a bus.
“We have a training center where we teach people who drive a bus, we get them their learning license and their heavy vehicle driver’s license.”
Dyke-Beyer said they hoped that one day Europe could become a legal bus driver.
“We’re going to help him with that and hopefully that opens up a lot of opportunities for him to become a bus, truck, or other heavy vehicle driver and maybe one day drive for the company.”
The bus company has had another difficult year, having lost 13 buses to vandalism, costing the company millions of rand.
