Here are the headlines for the Liverpool night for Saturday April 25.
Gerrard makes the Henderson-Scholes comparison
Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has compared Jordan Henderson to Manchester United legend Paul Scholes.
Henderson has been one of the Reds’ most consistent players this season, helping his team take a 25-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.
Gerrard believes that the current Liverpool captain started running games the same way Scholes once did for United.
“It doesn’t surprise me how he’s handling on and off the field, obviously I played with him for several years for Liverpool and England,” Gerrard told BT Sport.
“Very fit, athletic boy who is very selfless in the way he approaches his game on the field. He puts everyone else before himself and when you play alongside him, you appreciate the work he does for the team.
“I think over the years he has developed parts of his game, his passing range is fantastic, and he’s running games with a bit of control like Paul Scholes did.” Lead by example and is always there for the team.
“I have seen him grow with interest as a person. He has always been a great boy, a great teammate, an incredible human being and it is no surprise that people are now beginning to recognize who he is, on and off the field.
“Every praise he receives as a player and as a human being deserves it because it is true. I can guarantee it because I have experienced it alongside him.”
Woodward issues warning about change in soccer
Manchester United Chief Executive Ed Woodward has warned anyone who thinks football clubs will be spending a lot of money again once the coronavirus crisis is over, then they may be wrong.
Liverpool has been linked to big money moves for Timo Werner and Jadon Sancho this summer, but with many Premier League clubs already cutting wages, the financial situation has already been greatly affected by the global pandemic.
“No one should have any illusions about the magnitude of the challenge everyone faces in football and it may not be ‘business as usual’ for any club, including ourselves, in the transfer market this summer,” Woodward said in a forum on United fans through conference.
“As always, our priority is the success of a team. But we need visibility of the impact across the industry, including transfer window deadlines and the broader financial picture, before we can talk about a return to normality.
“On this basis, I can’t help but feel that speculations about individual player transfers of hundreds of millions of pounds this summer seem to ignore the realities facing the sport.”
Gray believes there should be a Premier League cut
Former Everton striker Andy Gray believes the Premier League season can still be completed, but he believes there should be a cutoff point for the campaign.
The Premier League is working behind the scenes to try to find a solution that ensures the season is complete with the UK currently blocked.
Gray believes it can be done, but he believes there has to come a point where he doesn’t delay future events as well.
“I think you can do it, honestly,” Gray told BeinSports.
“I have said this from the first day, I think they have the window of the European Championship (postponed) from mid-June to mid-July, which for me is the marker, it should be done by then.
“If the season doesn’t complete in mid-July, or maybe the third week of July would be a more realistic cut, then I think we have to forget about this season.” I don’t know what you do with the trophies. I still haven’t figured that out yet, what they do.
“But I think” null and void “is becoming less of an option, the more I read about it.”
