Slow transmission

The slower than expected transmission of the coronavirus in South Africa has been linked to the strict blockade in the country. This, however, will change soon.

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the national closure of COVID-19 in South Africa will begin to slow down next week.

He said that while the blockade has been effective in containing the spread of the virus, it cannot be sustained indefinitely.

When the full national blockade ends, South Africa will transition to a five-tier alert system to ensure that restrictions can be eased in the safest way possible.
