Loris Karius will return to the Liverpool fold, despite ties to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

That’s the opinion of former Premier League striker Kevin Phillips, who believes Klopp would prefer the German to be his second goalkeeper.

Karius has spent the past two seasons on loan with Besiktas, with his last competitive Liverpool game in the 2018 Champions League final vs Real Madrid.

That game, of course, saw the keeper make two high-profile failures, which appear to have ended his career at Liverpool.

Karius hopes to cancel his contract with Besiktas, after he reportedly filed a complaint with FIFA over a wage dispute.

In a surprising twist, reports in the Turkish press suggested it could be a target for Nuno Espirito Santo, with the Wolves seeking a new aide for Rui Patricio.

John Ruddy has been linked to a move to Besiktas and with his contract expired, it seems likely that Wolves is in the market for a senior alternative to Patrick.

But Phillips believes Klopp will reinstate him to Liverpool’s first team again, replacing Adrian as Alisson Becker’s substitute.

“I think it’s probably a better second option,” he said. Soccer insider.

“Adrian came this season, he had a couple of good performances and he showed he can do a job. But yeah, he made a couple of mistakes before the break.

“I would say Karius is a better goalkeeper. I think Karius has shown that he is a good goalkeeper and I think Klopp would prefer him to be Alisson’s substitute next season. “
