We all think we know what a Jose Mourinho team is like.
The Portuguese has developed a reputation as one of the game’s best coaches in the 21st century, bringing his talents to Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Chelsea again, Manchester United and now Tottenham.
Things may not have worked out the way he wanted at some of those clubs, but there is little doubt about his place in modern football history and his influence on many great players.
But which players has Mourinho relied on most often in his different managerial spells?
While we’ve been looking at the most frequent multi-star teammates for the past few days, we will now examine the players the Portuguese chose most frequently.

- The XI is made up of players who made the most appearances alongside our featured player or our featured manager. We are not looking for a ‘Best’ XI overall, and the player / manager is not on it.
- For a player, the appearance numbers are based on the time they spent on the field at the same time as our main man, taking into account both club and international level.
- These are not necessarily the eleven players who spent most of their time on the field with him, but the eleven who would fit into a team.
- We are not going to make it to a Garth Crooksesque formation, but we could name submarines if we wanted to.
