Palo Alto, California – Tesla’s ultra-weird Cybertruck nearly broke the internet with the way it polarized opinions when it was revealed late last year, but the vehicle we’ve seen so far is just the prototype. The actual version of the showroom is only set to start rolling off the assembly line later in 2021, and will be slightly different in several ways.

Although it will probably be a long time before we see the production version, Elon Musk has revealed a few more details in the past week by answering questions on Twitter.

For starters, it will be slightly smaller than the prototype. When asked by @ jgrano305 what would be the biggest change, Musk replied, “Size reduced by ~ 3%, centerline is more level, and window sill height is lower.”

A day earlier, @mattkalin had asked for more news from Cybertruck, to which Musk replied: “We are working to increase the dynamic travel of the air suspension to improve the SUV. It needs to kick butt in Baja.”

While that certainly implies that the Cybertruck could compete, the implication is also that production models will offer some sort of “Baha mode” for the high-speed off-roader, just like Ford’s Raptor models.

Musk also confirmed that the truck will even “float for a while,” after being asked about its wading depth, and in another Tweet confirmed that it would get a heat pump, just like the Model Y, which allows for heating the cabin. without having a devastating effect on the range.

As previously reported, the Cybertruck is a radical truck with some impressive credentials.

Its body is made of 30-times ultra-hard cold-rolled stainless steel and is said to be resistant to denting and long-term corrosion.

Tesla is selling it in three configurations, with the top-drive three-wheel-drive model offering a claimed range of over 805 km, and this version will also run 0 to 60 mph (96 km / h) in just 2.9 seconds.

For the more budget conscious, Tesla will also offer a twin-engine AWD model, with a range of 483 km and a sprint time of 4.5 seconds, as well as a single-motor variant with rear-wheel drive that achieves a range of 400 km more humble and a 6.5 second sprint.

Elon Musk said the vehicle is similar in size to Ford’s best-selling F-150 and that towing capacities are also competitive, ranging from 3,400 kg to 6,350 kg.

The futuristic truck is not as outrageously expensive as one might expect, with prices in the US. USA From $ 39,900, which is around R750,000 at the current exchange rate, while the sleeker versions are expected to cost around $ 69,900.

However, Tesla has yet to enter the South African market, and if the truck were to come here at some point in the future, import duties would add a large chunk to the price.
