Liverpool will need to sell at least a couple of centers before signing new defenders, according to Danny Mills.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former England and Leeds United defender delivered their verdict as the Reds stepped up their pursuit of RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate.
Anfield Central reports that Liverpool have reached a verbal agreement with the German team on the transfer of Konate.
This site understands that they are also working on a reduced price deal for loan star Ozan Kabak, as their parent club Schalke is in financial trouble.
If both Konate and Kabak are added in the summer, Liverpool would be left with seven senior center-backs and Rhys Williams, who has enjoyed a first-team career this season.
“You probably need four center halves of the first team and in that, you would include Nat Phillips as one of the youngest players.” Mills said Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“If Van Dijk and Gomez get back in shape, I can definitely see a couple dating, that’s for sure.
“And Rhys Williams. These players, when they have tried the opportunities of the first team, they can think ‘You know what? No. I need to get out of here because we need something else, what we need is first-team football. ‘ That’s what it all boils down to.“
