“She was diagnosed with Covid-19 at the beginning of the year and was admitted to hospital in February due to trouble breathing.

“Six weeks later, he is still in the hospital. The cost to the hospital family alone has already exceeded R1m and we are running out of funds. “

Van Zyl said that his wife was still unable to breathe on her own and that “the cost of having to wear the respirator is only about R 150,000 per week.

“He has suffered from various complications related to an extended ICU stay and we need more funds to pay for his continued hospital stay until his lungs can cope without the ventilator.
