- Three people were killed in a hail of bullets outside a Perridgevale bus ticket booth in Gqeberha on Friday afternoon.
- According to the police, the attack was apparently a blow to a man and a woman who had just bought bus tickets to Gauteng.
- The third deceased was a passerby who had left a supermarket in the same premises.
Three people, including a passerby, were shot dead in an apparent hit in front of a bus ticket sales point in Perridgevale in Gqeberha.
Police spokeswoman Colonel Priscilla Naidu said a man and a woman were killed Friday afternoon on Storey Street after buying bus tickets to Gauteng.
“As they left, they were met with a hail of bullets fired at them. The woman collapsed near the office while the man ran and collapsed on the premises of a shopping center. An innocent passerby was also fatally shot. [hit] for stray bullets when leaving a supermarket on the premises. The three deceased suffered multiple gunshot wounds, “Naidu said Saturday.
The attackers fled the scene.
Shortly after the shooting, police saw a silver gray Honda Civic without license plates driving down Burt Drive in Newton Park.

“Officers followed the vehicle and when they tried to stop it it sped away. Approximately five men were in the vehicle. During the ensuing chase, a firearm was thrown out of the vehicle on Searle Road,” Naidu said.
The driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a lamp post on Neave Street in Schauderville. The five occupants got out and fled.
“Members of the Anti-Gang Unit who attended saw two men with guns running down Highfield Road. They were chased and detained on Peddie Street in Korsten. The suspects, aged 29 and 36, are being held on charges of attempted murder. (shooting police officers), illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and possession of allegedly stolen property. Detectives are investigating a possible link to the killings, “Naidu said.
Two firearms found from the men were confiscated. The vehicle they were traveling in was reported hijacked in Humewood earlier that day.
They will appear in court soon.
