As Mzansi continued to celebrate and honor Noxolo Grootboom’s legacy, Pearl Thusi’s overblown tribute to her Twitter set Twitter on fire.
On social media Wednesday, the “Queen Sono” actress paid a moving tribute to Grootboom.
The veteran newscaster gracefully retired from the public broadcaster, after 37 years.
“When you meet a Queen, a Hero … you don’t need anything to kneel down to show respect. It comes naturally, ”Thusi said.
She further explained that the images she shared, where she is seen kneeling before her icon, were taken at Akhumzi Jezile’s funeral in 2018.
“I even broke my rule of no photos at funerals because this opportunity would find me again? However, your humility lifted me up and insisted that I stand in front of you, and then you hugged me! I?
“I couldn’t believe that I got to see you in real life, but I felt like I knew you all my life,” Thusi said.
The “Catching Fellings” star also thanked the renowned broadcaster for changing the path for many South African women in broadcasting.
Thank you for your commitment to your language, your work, and therefore being a constant for many of us in this ever-changing world.

While many applauded Thusi for honoring the news veteran, it was the images of her kneeling before Grootboom that stole the show.
Tweeps labeled her dramatic, while others dragged Minnie Dlamini-Jones into the mix.
In her now-deleted tweet, Dlamini-Jones wrote: “My mother says that when I was about 4 years old I used to get very excited seeing her on screen and yelling her name around the house.”
But Twitter found it hard to believe his statement. Below are some Twitter reactions.
