President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to deliver the closing address soon after the ANC national executive committee meeting.
The NEC meeting focused heavily on the party’s corruption-accused General Secretary Ace Magashule.
ANC heavyweights such as former President Thabo Mbeki and NEC member Joel Netshitenzhe are reported to have attacked Magashule, who is under pressure to step aside.
The briefing was supposed to be Sunday night, but News24 was told it was delayed after the meeting descended into chaos over Magashule’s fate.
Insiders said Ramaphosa’s closing speech was delayed after a vote on the matter was proposed amid the chaos.
The meeting was adjourned late on Sunday for senior party officials to discuss the matter and return with a solution, the sources said.
Magashule supporters objected as he and those facing criminal charges receive a seven-day ultimatum.
The ANC’s integrity commission presented its report at Sunday’s meeting, where they recommended that Magashule step aside pending the outcome of his corruption case. This is a developing story.
