A search operation has been launched to find a 69-year-old man, who has been missing for two days, in the Silvermine Dam area of Cape Town.
Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) said Silvermine Dam will be closed until further notice.
“The Silvermine Dam in the central section of TMNP is currently closed to the public until further notice, following a search operation for a 69-year-old male regular hiker, who went missing on Sunday, March 21, 2021,” he said.
“The SAPS Diving Unit, Metro Rescue Unit, TMNP Rangers and Working on Fire are conducting a search operation in and around Silvermine. The teams have been unsuccessful so far and will continue the search, spreading to other areas of the park as well. “

The man has been identified as Michael Riley, police confirmed.
Wilderness Search and Rescue spokesman Johan Marais said: “Rescue agents, with the help of our K9 Unit, assisted SAPS in searching for the 69-year-old man for two days recently. The search is now focused on the man. Silvermine Dam area. “
