Stage 2 load shedding is back, says Eskom.

Stage 2 load shedding is back, says Eskom.

The load shedding will be canceled, for now, starting at noon on Friday, when the generating units are back online, Eskom said in a statement.

Earlier in the week, generation capacity had been lost at the Medupi, Arnot, Duvha and Kendal power plants. The shortfall was partly attributed to leaking boiler tubes, firing of units and an increase in demand, Eskom spokesman Sikonathi Mantshantsha said.

Since Thursday, a generation unit was put back into service in Duvha, Medupi, Kendal, Kriel and Kusile. One more unit was expected to be operational again in Camden and Mejuba on Friday.

“Although we have also lost other units at the Tutuka, Camden and Hendrina power plants, we have managed to adequately replenish emergency generation reserves. Eskom will also take the opportunity during the long weekend, due to lower demand, to carry out activities. short-term maintenance and to further replenish emergency stocks in preparation for next week, “Eskom said Friday morning.

Currently, the company has 7,193 MW in planned maintenance, while another 10,464 MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns and delays.
