DURBAN – The KwaZulu-Natal House of Traditional Leaders said Saturday that it hoped the late King AmaZulu’s successor, Goodwill Zwelithini, would be a unifier.
The institution said that the late Zulu monarch embraced the principle of unity and that the next leader of the Zulu nation must carry this legacy forward.
King Zwelithini passed away in a Durban hospital on Friday from complications related to diabetes.
The president of the House of Traditional Leaders of KwaZulu-Natal, Inkosi Phathisizwe Chiliza, said that they will respect and give the Zulu royal family time to name the successor to the late King Goodwill Zwelithini.

Chiliza said they expected the next leader to follow in their footsteps.
“We expect a unifier like our king was and we firmly believe that our king has done everything possible to let whoever in the family knows exactly what the people are expecting.”

King Goodwill Zwelithini had been receiving medical care for more than a month before his passing.
The king, a known diabetic, was initially admitted for high glucose levels.
Her family confirmed on Saturday that the monarch contracted COVID-19 while hospitalized but recovered.
