JOHANNESBURG (AP) – Northwest police said Sunday that the motive for the murder of Mapula Khune, who is the sister of Bafana goalkeeper Bafana Itumeleng Khune, was under investigation.

Authorities arrested a 17-year-old for the murder of Mapula on Friday.

The 27-year-old woman’s body was left unrecognizable in a Ventersdorp house fire on Thursday.

Neighbors called emergency services when they saw smoke rising from a patio.

His charred remains were discovered by police in his bed.

Police Adele Myburgh said Sunday: “Provincial Police Commissioner Seal Kwena commended the officers for their swift response which secured the arrest of the teenager.”

Police say details of the relationship between the victim and the defendant could not be released because the defendant is a minor.

However, he will appear in Ventersdorp Juvenile Court on Monday.
