  • M-Net has issued a statement on social media after receiving criticism for the local adaptation of the reality show Love Island.
  • The series was criticized for a lack of diversity in the cast and a number of production problems picked up by viewers.
  • “Sorry, we don’t meet our usual standard on both counts. We are working tirelessly to fix things and deliver the Magic you deserve,” the announcer said Tuesday.

While both M-Net executives and Rapid Blue producers have not spoken to the media two days after a firestorm reviews involved its Love Island SA reality show on Sunday. The pay TV host on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 PM posted a message on social media finally saying they are sorry and “they are working tirelessly to fix things.”

M-Net published their message after the main sponsor of the local adaptation, LottoStar, withdrew from the reality series that came under severe criticism for its lack of cast diversity and shockingly bad production values.

“We were struck by the lack of diversity and quality of production in our first episode of Love Island SA. Sorry, we did not meet our usual standard in both respects. We work tirelessly to fix things and deliver the Magic you deserve.” M-Net said in a statement on social media that was not emailed to the media.

Meanwhile, MultiChoice has turned down media requests to interview the M-Net executives who oversee the show, or the Rapid Blue producers who do.

M-Net and Rapid Blue remain unanswered serious questions about how the implosion of Love Island SA came up, the cast selection, why it remains unable to fix production issues with sound, editing, music, voice-over narration, cinematography, and why the show is set in a vineyard rather than , like previous UK and French seasons filmed in South Africa, in luxurious mansions.

MultiChoice and M-Net haven’t made the much-ridiculed debut episode of Love Island SA available on its DStv Catch Up service, but added Monday night’s second episode, which also contains bugs, on Tuesday morning.

However, on Tuesday afternoon, episode 2 of Love Island SA it was also abruptly removed without explanation from DStv Catch Up.

MultiChoice was asked about the episode’s removal, likely due to the fact that it contains LottoStar banners and advertisements, and to comment on the ongoing bugs and glitches that were also present on Monday night’s episode.
