JOHANNESBURG – The protesters who blocked the roads at Sandton’s licensing department in Marlboro have dispersed and those trapped in the building may leave.
Independent driving school owners in Alexandra approached the licensing department Thursday morning, angered by the online reservation system, claiming that it was not working and was not helping private driving schools or their clients.
They blocked the roads, leaving several people who were already inside stranded for hours, preventing them from leaving.
Marlboro Driving Schools Association spokeswoman Mmereia Legodi said: “There are always problems when we go online. We only have one day for driver’s licenses and students. I think we are overloading it. If they can update the server and the allocations of those reservations because we only get 20%. “
They did not request permission to mount the march and it was, therefore, an illegal march.
One man said he had been trapped inside the building for four hours, with protesters blocking entry and exit points.
“They won’t let us out. They’ve blocked the whole way and they don’t care. I have a girl at home and I need to go get her and I can’t. I’m stuck here.”
JMPD’s Xolani Fihla previously said they hoped to resolve the matter as soon as possible.
