A high-ranking official from the Northwest Department of Education reportedly appeared in court for possession of an alleged theft of cattle, after allegedly stolen cattle worth R300,000 were found on his farm.
Gift Ramadie, 50, appeared in Delareyville Magistrates Court on Monday, along with a shepherd at his farm, Goitsemodimo Modukanele, 38, according to National Tax Authority (NPA) regional spokesman Henry Mamothame.
The two were detained on Friday after about 100 head of cattle and calves were allegedly found in their possession, said provincial police spokesman Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone.

According to the Northwest District Attorney, Ramadie was a farmer, but he was also the chief director of the Northwest Department of Education.
Farmers in the area had hired a helicopter to locate a missing stallion worth R 120,000, Mokgwabone said.

“During the search, the bull along with the cattle that were reported stolen at the Delareyville and Sannieshof police stations between Tuesday, February 2 and Thursday, February 18, 2021, were found at the suspect’s farm in Barberspan, on the outskirts of Delareyville, “Mokgwabone said.
“Subsequently, the owners positively identified 11 head of cattle, while others were seized and taken to the Lichtenburg kennel for further investigation, as their trademarks were tampered with.”
Mamothame said the two would remain in custody until March 2 for their bail requests.
