Pretoria – Malawian authorities have given no explanation for preventing the 8-year-old daughter of self-proclaimed Malawian prophet Shepherd Bushiri from traveling to Kenya for medical assistance, a spokesman for the charismatic preacher said on Monday.

“I can confirm that on Friday February 19, the daughter of the Prophet Shepherd Bushiri was unable to fly to Nairobi, Kenya, to seek medical attention. Three guards accompanied her. The prophet Bushiri and the prophet Bushiri were not part of the delegation, ”said Ephraim Nyondo.

“The 8-year-old daughter was duly referred by competent Malawian medical professionals for further medical treatment and all the necessary immigration details were ready to facilitate her journey via a contracted air ambulance.”

Nyondo said no information was given about the delegation’s blocking.

“To date, my office has not received any information on why the child was denied the right to legally access medical care after being duly referred by a competent doctor. The girl’s condition remains critical at the same medical facility that referred her to seek further medical care in Kenya, ”Nyondo said.

He said daughter Bushiri had previously received medical care in Kenya.

“The kid has been flying there a number of times and I am amazed at this isolated blockage,” Nyondo said.

“Surprisingly, just hours after the girl was denied her right to good health and the right to life, the Malawi police issued an arrest warrant for the Prophet Bushiri and the prophetess Mary Bushiri. I still do not have the basis for the order and, according to the media, not even the police have explained the order ”.

Nyondo said Sunday morning that Malawian police broke into one of Bushiri’s properties to execute the arrest warrant. He said that Bushiri’s lawyers have since challenged the police action in court.

“I strongly believe in the leadership of this country and I am sure that they will positively consider our request and request that the girl go to receive medical care as referred by the doctor,” Nyondo said.

“Having worked with the prophet for many years, I have come to realize that he is a man of faith who believes that doctors treat, but it is God who heals. He believes that the child has the right to life and access to medical care like any other citizen ”.

Bushiri and his wife fled South Africa last year while on bail. They are wanted in Pretoria on a number of charges, including fraud and money laundering.
