Former England rugby star Sam burgess He was arrested for traffic violations and possible drug use in Australia on Monday in his latest confrontation with authorities, local media reported.

Burgess, 32, was reportedly pulled over by police while driving down a road about 100 kilometers (60 miles) southwest of Sydney and underwent a roadside drug test, which allegedly failed.

Police would only say that they detained a 32-year-old man in the area and took him to a local police station where they took a second drug test and then arrested him for driving without a license in an unregistered car.

Results of the second drug test are pending, they said in a statement.

Police did not confirm the man’s identity, citing privacy rules, but an official said he would not normally issue a press release about a traffic violation if he was not a “person of interest.” The man was released and ordered to appear in court on May 4, police said.

Burgess, a former dual rugby international, is currently on two-year good behavior bond after being convicted earlier this month of bullying his ex-wife’s father during a standoff in October 2019.

He is appealing that conviction.

Burgess resigned last year from his duties as coach of the Sydney Rabbitohs rugby league team and as a television commentator after police and rugby officials launched investigations into allegations of drug use and domestic violence involving the former player.

He has denied those accusations.

Burgess spent most of his career in Australia with South Sydney and also played 24 rugby league games for England.

He also made a brief code change, playing five rugby union events for England, including at the 2015 World Cup.
