JOHANNESBURG – Professor Glenda Gray, co-principal investigator of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine trial, asked the public to be patient as there would still be some initial problems with the COVID-19 inoculation implementation schedule.
Over the weekend, doctors at Steve Biko Academic Hospital claimed they were denied vaccinations despite having appointments.
More than 900 people were queuing at the Pretoria facility to receive their first COVID-19 vaccine.
Gray said many general practitioners came to the site without appointments.
“They fell through the cracks and so we were looking for ways to quickly vaccinate them so they don’t get left out. In the end, we vaccinated 1,020 people, which is phenomenal. “
Nationwide, more than 15,000 people have been vaccinated since the start of the vaccine’s implementation.
