The Hawks arrested a second IT executive in connection with a R130 million tender scam.

Adriraan Pillay, 39, was arrested in Germiston, Gauteng on Friday and appeared in Palm Ridge Commercial Crimes Court on Monday.

Pillay and the co-defendant, former Cell C executive Mohamed Ismail Adamjee, allegedly inflated the bills of service providers, resulting in losses to the tune of R130 million for Cell C.

Adamjee, 44, was an IT manager at one of Cell C’s service providers and allegedly committed the crimes between 2012 and 2019 with a director of one of the mobile network operator’s service providers.

“The Hawks investigation came in 2020, following an internal audit conducted at the cell phone company, which resulted in the arrest of [Adamjee] last month, “said Hawks spokesman Capt. Ndivhuwo Mulamu.

Adamjee was released on bail of 50,000 rand after his appearance at the Johannesburg Commercial Crimes Court last month.

Pillay received a bond of 50,000 rand on Monday.

“The case is postponed until April 14, 2021 when he will join his co-defendants, [Adamjee]. The investigation is continuing on this matter and more arrests are expected, “Mulamu said.
