Ole Gunnar Solskjaer jumped to Donny van de Beek’s defense after Manchester United’s victory over West Ham in the FA Cup.
Man Utd required a goal from Scott McTominay in extra time to reserve your place in the quarterfinals of the competition.
McTominay’s goal was the only one of the full 120 minutes, as it took United longer than they would have liked to overcome a difficult opponent.
Coach Solskjaer gave opportunities to some players who have not been regular starters. For example, Van de Beek started as an attacking midfielder.
The dutch he’s had trouble finding regular playing time since moving from Ajax in the summer. He has only started two Premier League games.
Van de Beek, to be fair, has started all three of his FA Cup matches so far. But in the last of those appearances, he could not prevail.
He was replaced in minute 73 by Bruno Fernandes, the man whose form has made it difficult for Van de Beek to get into the team.
However, despite removing it, Solskjaer insisted that Van de Beek played well.
“I thought that in the first half, Donny and we played very well,” Solskjaer said.
“We created spaces and he was part of that. He did his job neat and clean, he had half a chance.
“In the second half, the whole team fell a bit and we just wanted to make some changes.”
Solskjaer wanted to finish in 90 minutes
Overall, Solskjaer was happy with the pressure his team was putting on West Ham, but wanted them to be more clinical to get the job done on time.
“I felt that we dominated. I thought we had full control of the first half, ”he said. BBC Sport.
“In the second half it became more of a game. When it’s just a zero and we waste, anything can happen to us, we knew from the last game [Everton].
“It’s about finishing the game, but we are done. We are in the hat and that is what we wanted.
“I think we got 15-17 shots at the end, but we have to be more clinical. We should have finished the game earlier and finished in 90 minutes, but sometimes it doesn’t happen. “
