Two bodies have been recovered from a hole.
- It’s unclear how the children were trapped, says City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue.
- The roads linking the N2 from the R300 have been closed.
- Rescue teams are now searching for a fourth person, whose whereabouts are unknown.

The bodies of three children were recovered in Nyanga, Cape Town, after they were trapped underground on Monday afternoon.
The Cape Town fire and rescue team and the SAPS K9 unit were on the scene after receiving a call around 3:10 p.m., stating that three minors fell into a hole near the N2 at the Borcherds Quarry intersection. Road, said fire services spokesman Jermaine Carelse.
“Gugulethu and Mitchells Plain fire crews were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, the officer informed the control center that three minors fell into a hole.
“Technical rescue teams were dispatched from Roeland Street and Metro EMS. Just after 6:00 pm, the bodies of two minor children were recovered,” the spokesman said.
The third body was recovered at 9:00 p.m., Carelse said.

He said search operations were still ongoing at the scene and that they were trying to locate another “fourth missing person”.
Western Cape police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk said the children had allegedly been playing in the sand dunes, which collapsed on them.
“An investigation case was registered for investigation … the circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation.”
Cape Town Traffic Services spokesman Kevin Jacobs said the north and south link to the N2 from the R300 was closed.
