JOHANNESBURG – Veterans of the African National Congress (ANC) said it is unthinkable for a party member to write a letter of open defiance to the Constitutional Court as former President Jacob Zuma did.
The stalwarts, who called for Zuma to resign as the country’s president and leader of the ANC in 2016, expressed frustration at the slow response of the current ANC leadership to Zuma’s actions.
The former president wrote a statement in recent days where he mentioned that he would defy an order from the Constitutional Court to return to the Investigation Commission on State Capture.
The former statesman also said he was willing to face a jail sentence before appearing on the commission he accuses of prejudice against him.
One of the stalwarts, Mavuso Msimang, attacked ANC Secretary General Ace Magashule for defending Zuma.
“It makes you wonder what the voters will think, what the South Africans will think of the ANC if their president took such an open position to challenge the Constitution and his SG came and said that there is nothing wrong with what he has done.”
