Durban – Former President Jacob Zuma and EFF leader Julius Malema spent five hours having tea on Friday, but what they discussed remains on the bag.

Malema arrived in a field several meters from Zuma’s sprawling R246 million KwaNxamalala, Nkandla was living in a helicopter after 12.30pm on Friday, before being transferred to the former head of state’s home in a luxury German SUV, where he remained. locked up during the “tea party” for almost five hours.

Malema was then taken in the same vehicle to the waiting helicopter, before flying to the skies with his entourage, including lawyer Dali Mpofu SC.

Also among the visitors were Tony Yengeni, member of the ANC NEC, the mayor of Ekurhuleni, Mzwandile Masina, and the national spokesperson for the EFF, Vuyani Pambo.

The meeting comes as the 78-year-old former head of state blatantly defied the Constitutional Court ruling ordering him to appear before the State Capture Allegations Investigation Commission headed by Supreme Court Vice President Raymond Zondo.

Addressing the media outside Zuma’s home, Pambo said the meeting had gone well, but did not reveal any details.

Pambo said there was no topic for the meeting between the public or the media, but the agenda between the former leader of the ANC Youth League and the former president of the ANC and the state was tea.

Pambo said that the media had not been invited and that they were only speaking to the media as a courtesy.

“The meeting went very well, the tea was rich and sweet, very hot. So you know that the practice of drinking tea is such that it is a slow process, you can’t just swallow it like you drink other things, so you have to take your time ”, was all that Pambo told the media.

The private tea party was trending on social media and South Africans were amused by the secrecy surrounding the event.

@sephiritsikeli tweeted: “President Zuma’s tea meeting with Malema in Nkandla has made headlines. I wonder what if they told us they added scones and muffins. “

@NtiiliOfficialZA added: “Someone said that the media will be camping outside Zuma’s house waiting for Malema to arrive and I thought they were just exaggerating … It happened.”

@Makumbi believes that Zuma and Malema have made history with their tea party.

“For the first time in South African history, a cup of tea has made headlines only because Julius Malema and Jacob Zuma are going to drink it together.”

@VQwathi said the tea party had piqued her interest in politics.

Malema actually went to Nkandla. I have never been so interested in politics. “

@souldocs believes that after this party tea prices will skyrocket in the country.

“Caution: DO NOT try to buy tea today or this weekend. Tea prices are at their record high, after what is happening. “

About an hour after the meeting, Masina took to her Twitter account and posted a photo of the entourage, which she captioned: “Today we did what many thought was impossible and we united Black Leadership in the interest of our Constitutional Democracy @Julius_S_Malema @PresJGZuma in my quality of Citizen Facilitator. Watch the result and be a judge. “

Political analyst Ralph Mathekga said it was difficult to determine what the meeting might have been about and questioned Zuma’s intentions to create a media frenzy by meeting with a leader of a particular party while the ANC was not there.

“Where is the ANC in all this? They need to answer, if they were part of the meeting or what. Mzwandile Masina was there, but it is unclear if he was part of the ANC as a party or is Zuma now just doing what he wants? Mathekga said.

President Cyril Ramaphosa said on Friday that Zuma should be given time and space, as he was advised by different people after his statement in which he challenged the Constitutional Court ruling ordering him to appear before the Zondo Commission.

Ramaphosa, who addressed reporters outside the home of the late Mama Rebecca Kotane, said: “He has expressed his own thoughts and points of view. This is a topic that I am sure he is going to think more about because he is being advised by several people from different organizations.

“These are issues that you need to consider in your own mind, in your own time, let’s give former President Zuma time and space to think about this.

“I am willing to leave it there, of course we have not discussed this matter in the ANC, which we will do. Anyone who says much more will miss the point. “
