Liverpool close to signing Davies

According to the Telegraph’s John Percy, Liverpool have agreed to a £ 2 million fee with Preston North End for Ben Davies, with a transfer to the Anfield team to be sealed before the transfer deadline.

Percy now reports that a doctor has been scheduled for Monday morning. The full Telegraph report from earlier details that Sepp van den Berg will be targeting Deepdale on loan as part of the deal.

Liverpool was in dire need of a central defense recruit during the January transfer window and it appears they finally got their man on the eve of the deadline, leaving late and getting a reduced price.

The relatively low fee for a 25-year-old with vast Championship experience, having made 129 appearances at this level since the start of the 17/18 season, is undoubtedly due to the ace’s contract.

Davies is in the final six months of his contract, with speculation earlier this week suggesting that he was actually about to seal a pre-contract deal with Celtic.

Jurgen Klopp needs another option at the heart of the defense with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez still offside with serious knee injuries, while Joel Matip has once again succumbed to his injury propensity.

I’ve already detailed that a raid for Davies could actually be something of a masterstroke, landing a local talent for this fee also leaves room for Virgil van Dijk to return to the team as a non-local player.
