The South African Meteorological Service has announced a level 10 red warning for the eastern parts of Limpopo and Mpumalanga due to persistent heavy rains. This occurs when the tropical storm wreaked havoc in some parts of the country.

According to SAWS, more heavy rains are expected to hit Limpopo and Mpumalanga from Sunday night through Monday.

“This will put great strain on the emergency services. Be very careful in these areas, ”SAWS said in a tweet.

Citizens of Mpumalanga, Limpopo, and KwaZulu-Natal can expect disruptive heavy rains and flooding starting today as Tropical Storm Eloise made landfall earlier this week.

South Africa Meteorological Service (SAWS) forecaster Lulama Pheme added that the coast could also experience hurricane force winds due to rough and gusty seas.

“The heavy rain threshold is 50 millimeters, but we expect between 100 and 300 millimeters. Lives could be lost to flooding if residents are not cautious. The usual rain was expected for Durban. The areas that have experienced heavy rains would be too saturated and prone to flooding due to normal rains in the week, ”said Pheme.

Pheme also said that the effects of Tropical Storm Eloise would bring cooler weather conditions to Gauteng.

“The temperatures are dropping a bit. We expect warm conditions. We are seeing a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms. “
