JOHANNESBURG – The African American National Crisis Committee will write to Parliament to ban Wouter Basson from practicing as a doctor.

The man nicknamed “Dr. Death” led the apartheid government’s establishment of a chemical and biological warfare program against blacks.

The committee said it was surprised to see his name published among staff members and doctors on the Mediclinic website.

He also questioned why Mediclinic has allowed Basson to be a practitioner, given his past.

However, the private healthcare group said it was operating as an independent specialist cardiologist with admission rights to treat its patients at two of its facilities.

The committee also intends to file a murder and manslaughter complaint against Basson in Cape Town on Monday.
