President Cyril Ramaphosa has established an inter-ministerial committee to oversee the deployment of Covid-19 vaccines in the country.

Ramaphosa announced this at a Zoom meeting of the ANC’s Progressive Business Forum on Tuesday.

He said that people were correct in showing interest in vaccines and where they would come from.

“Today we established an interministerial committee, which would be chaired by the vice president [David Mabuza]”Ramaphosa said.

He added that he himself will chair the first meeting to “guide the process for various aspects of the distribution of the vaccine.”

He said the committee would help the government cooperate more effectively to ensure that the entire vaccine distribution process is “well done.”

The implementation of vaccines was being treated like any big project the country has tackled, including the 2010 soccer World Cup and elections.

Ramaphosa said the vaccination project would be bigger, as it has to reach 40 million people.

“The vaccine will be a huge boost in our effort to combat Covid-19,” he said, emphasizing that finances would not be an issue as South Africa could afford the vaccines.
