DURBAN – KwaZulu-Natal POLICE is searching for a gang of men who raided a jewelry store in Gateway this morning and took valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rand.

According to a spokesperson for Marshall Security, its officers responded to multiple panic calls Friday morning.

“Upon the arrival of our Armed Response Officers and Special Operations Team, it was established that an unknown number of suspects managed to enter, breaking glass doors and windows, using sledgehammers,” the spokesman said.

The gang fled the scene in their Toyota Corrolla, which was found abandoned on the M25 motorway a short time later.

Gateway spokeswoman Michelle Shelley said no tenants or clients were injured in the incident.

“The center’s security teams immediately responded to the scene and the police were notified and responded to the scene shortly after. The perpetrators took an undisclosed amount of property. The safety of customers and tenants is of the utmost importance and we are working with SAPS to assist with their investigation, ”he said.

Shelley added that the center had been insured and was operating and trading normally according to closure regulations, he said.
