In what was supposed to be a beautiful wedding ceremony, Grace says she ended up playing the prelude for over an hour, however in her experience it usually only takes a few minutes for the guests to settle in before they start the wedding ceremony.

She then stopped playing games and decided to find out what was going on because she also noticed that the bridal couple’s family members were just as disoriented as she was.

“Not wanting to interrupt the silent audience that was waiting, I slipped off the bench and out a side door, expecting to meet the wedding planner,” Grace shares.

“I heard loud sobs and mute voices coming from the basement, where all the preparations were being made, and I heard several questions from the bewildered family members” How is it possible? “this is embarrassing”, “how could I?”

“I went downstairs, curious. I will never forget what I saw. The bride was surrounded by a crowd, mostly family and friends. The organizer kept his distance in a deep discussion with someone.”

Grace then proceeded to ask what was going on and was told by one of the guests that the officiant refused to participate in the wedding even though he was being paid.

The bride was distraught by what they told her and the news had to be shared with all the guests.

“I am very sorry to have to tell you that this wedding cannot continue because it is illegal. I will let the minister explain himself, but for now, please let us leave the premises,” the officiant’s assistant told the family.

Grace maneuvered her way into the minister’s office to find out what was really going on even though she knew she wasn’t supposed to, especially considering she’s not family.

“The attendant looked at me, sighed and said,” They can’t get married. The boy is already married to his cousin. He married her to get his papers for Canada, and the divorce has yet to be finalized. Until it is approved, there is nothing I can do, “shares Grace, referring to an arranged marriage between the cousins for immigration purposes.

The officiant also shared that the groom knew about the marriage but expected his divorce papers to arrive before the wedding.

However, it turned out that the groom had not told the officiant that he did not have the divorce papers until the officiant began completing the paperwork for the wedding.

“‘Did she know that he was not divorced?’ I couldn’t help but ask. ‘No, he didn’t,’ the officiant replied hastily. ‘That’s where the problem lies. No one knew. And we’re all in shock today,’ “shares Grace.

There were at least 200 people present in the church and more were expected in the reception hall.

“As the crowd came out of the church, they gave us the reception address. I didn’t go. My mind was tormented by the image of that poor bride, waiting for her boyfriend who was in no condition to marry her,” says Grace.
