- The KwaZulu-Natal ANC has condemned a party councilor’s voice memo on conspiracy theories involving 5G and Covid-19 as “insanity”.
- The party says that Sfiso Mngadi has acknowledged that he was behind the voice memo and the party has summoned him to explain.
- Meanwhile, the Prosecutor’s Office has filed a formal complaint and is considering filing a criminal complaint.
The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has condemned a voice memo from one of its advisers, Sfiso Mngadi, in which he shared conspiracy theories about links between 5G networks and Covid-19 and suggested that the eThekwini board consider disconnecting the towers 5G.
“It’s insane at the highest level, and you can quote me on it,” province party spokesman Nhlakanipho Ntombela told News24. “We condemn it.”
After drawing the attention of the ANC, Mngadi told them it was his voice in the clip, Ntombela said.
“We have called him to the office to explain himself. It is not an ANC position.”
Mngadi says in the voice memo:
“Councilors, I believe that as leaders at eThekwini, we must take action against this disease that has entered. It is not Covid. We get it from the 5G towers, some of which were installed and connected during Covid in preparation for the second wave. Maybe us , as councilors, we need to convene a special council [meeting] and make a decision that all 5G must be off-line in towers on eThekwini.
“So maybe we can call some departments to call MTN because Huawei, MTN and Cell C were installing them. The whites got the vaccine about five months ago, they got it from [The] Pavilion [Shopping Centre]. A truck arrived and white people came from as far away as Ixopo and Vryheid to take these boxes, only the white ones took them but I was careless. I don’t know why I never followed up on this, but now we need to unplug 5G and everyone on eThekwini will be fine.
“This looking thing [Health Minister] Zweli Mkhize and [President Cyril] Ramaphosa … We need to unplug 5G. They have disconnected them in other countries, they have destroyed them. We need to send a disaster management, electricity and IT team. They know them. We can give them 24 hours to disconnect and leave 4G and 3G behind. Otherwise, we will die. “

Ntombela said the party recently called a meeting of members of the provincial legislature and activists to help spread the message that the virus was hitting KwaZulu-Natal and that people should be careful. To his dismay, the voice memo appeared.
Ntombela said it could become a disciplinary matter for the councilor.

DA councilor Nicole Graham said she had written to the eThekwini mayor’s office to complain in terms of the councilors’ code of conduct.
“I believe this voice memo is misleading, dangerous and racially divisive. It also discredits the municipality.
“Can you also ask the departments to see how widespread these ideas may have become in your neighborhood / area of influence? It could be very dangerous for vulnerable people to believe that Covid is not real.”
Graham said he was also considering filing a criminal complaint.
Comment was not immediately available from Mngadi because he did not answer his phone or respond to a message.
Municipal Spokesperson Msawakhe Mayisela said she couldn’t comment on it right away.
The fifth generation of broadband networks has caused consternation in some quarters for its high frequency radio waves.
The infrastructure to enable higher internet speeds also looks different, and the people who oppose them believe there is a link between their installation and the coronavirus.
In the UK, many of the towers were destroyed by people who rejected them.
