Durban – Suspected drug lord Yaganathan ‘Teddy Mafia’ was shot in an apparent botched robbery at his home in Shallcross on Monday afternoon.

Two men were also attacked and beheaded. Their bodies were burned.

While details are vague at this stage, a local community activist said Pillay was shot and rushed to Chatsmed Hospital.

“We are not sure who did this,” the activist said.

Videos and graphic images of the scene have been shared on various social media platforms. In one of the videos, two bodies are seen lying on the road, the severed heads lying close to the bodies. In another video, a fire was made and debris is seen covering the bodies.

KZN SAPS spokesman Brigadier Jay Naicker said that at approximately 2 p.m. the owner of the property known as the Teddy Mafia had informed his daughter that he expected visitors.

“When the suspects arrived at her home, the daughter went to the back of her property when she heard gunshots. The daughter later established that her father had been shot. The community detained both suspects and then set them on fire, beheading them both, ”he said.

Naicker said that when police officers arrived at the scene, the community opened fire on them.

The police called the Public Order Surveillance Unit which dispersed the crowd without injuries.

“Property owner Teddy Mafia succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. Police did not seize firearms at the scene. At this stage, it is unknown whether the suspects were on foot or in a vehicle. The police will investigate three murder files, ”Naicker said.

Metro police spokesman Superintendent Parboo Sewpersad said the situation was unstable and urged people to avoid the area.
