JOHANNESBURG – The Gauteng Traffic Police said the province’s roads have seen a decrease in deaths this holiday season.

With the country below blockade level 3, there was reduced activity on the roads, but many still traveled outside the province.

Authorities said they are taking a zero-tolerance approach towards those who commit trafficking crimes and have already made some arrests.

Spokesman Obed Sibasa said that the road authorities are in full force.

“In terms of fatal accidents, the numbers have decreased and we hope that the situation will remain the same. We have stepped up safer holiday season operations. We are monitoring the roads to make sure that road users are following the rules of the road. “
