Five Indian cricketers currently on tour Australia They went into isolation on Saturday after dining at a Melbourne restaurant put them in a possible violation of strict Covid-19 health measures.
The players, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw and Navdeep Saini, will stay away from the rest of the Indian and Australian teams ahead of the third test that begins in Sydney on Thursday.
The Australian state of Victoria, which contains Melbourne, is currently working to stop a cluster of virus cases linked to a larger outbreak in neighboring New South Wales.
In response, authorities now require all restaurant goers to dine outside and maintain social distancing.
The cricket quintet was filmed inside the restaurant by a fan, who later posted the clip on Twitter.
“BCCI and CA are investigating the matter and seeking to determine whether the departure constitutes a violation of biosafety protocols,” said a statement from Cricket Australia.
“Meanwhile, following the advice of the Australian and Indian medical teams, the aforementioned players have been isolated as a precaution.”
Australia won the opening round in Adelaide by eight wickets, with India leveling the series on Tuesday with an eight wickets victory in Melbourne.
The third test will take place in Sydney despite a coronavirus outbreak in the city, with Brisbane holding the final clash as scheduled.
